Since his graduation from the Academy in Bergen (VKA/KHIB/KMD/UIB), Terje Nicolaisen has been working in a number of totally different media, drawing and painting being the main platform. His work seems to question his own role as an artist, the so called art system and the power structures that maintain it. He could be labeled as an idea-based artist although in recent years he has increasingly focused on the actual making of the image and the where this image might be originating from. He has exhibited extensively in Norway and abroad, some of the most prominent shows in Van Etten (Oslo), Plum Trim (Nesodden), Henie Onstad (Høvik, Galleri Riis (Oslo), Bergen Kunsthall No.5 (Bergen), Cirrus Gallery (Los Angeles), Momentum (Moss), Oslo Kunsthall (Oslo) and Nasjonalmuseet (Oslo). He i s also one of five members of Tegneklubben, an artist collective focusing on the lowbrow unskilled A4 drawing.
